For the first time at PXD, participants were able to have a "snack box" delivered to their homes to keep them energized throughout the day. So everyone was ready, and at 9:00 a.m., the epoq Personalization Experience Day 2022 finally began. After our moderators welcomed everyone, the first presentation began. Thorsten Mühling, CEO & Co-Founder of epoq, presented exciting possibilities and a glimpse into the future of online shopping...
Keynote on personalization
The first round started with our CEO Thorsten, who picked up on the concept of the experience economy. Selling products and services only works in conjunction with an experience that the customer has. Nowadays, it's all about creating memorable experiences for every customer. Those who fail to do so today will find it increasingly difficult in the future. The presentation cited many examples of how personalization can provide customers with precisely this experience. Through continuous testing and optimization, you not only ensure a positive customer experience, but can also increase sales in your store. But that's not enough: entertaining the customer is not just a feature, but a must, says Thorsten.
Spoiler alert: This trend will continue to spread in the future, and the experience will continue to evolve toward 1:1 personalization. You can find out more about this in the recording Personalization Status Quo & Future Outlook.
Best Practices | Shop search reimagined
The presentation then moved on to best practices for shop searches. Johannes from Picard explained what an ecommerce search engine function in an online shop needs to be able to do and showed direct examples of implementation using the Picard Lederwaren online shop. From the type-ahead function to category searches, he showed the must-haves for shop searches!
Kolja from Görtz seamlessly continued the presentation. The SEO manager of the shoe retailer emphasizes personalization in search. Every customer should see customized products for the same search. He explained the advantages and showed how this can look in practice in an online shop.

Nadine from epoq concludes the series. The UX/UI designer showed that there is much more potential in online shop search than some people might think. With search newcomers such as rotating search suggestions and interactive widgets, there will continue to be exciting things for shop operators and customers to discover in the future. What could these be? Find out in the recording Shopsuche neu gedacht(Shop search reimagined).
How-To | Data Enrichment – Ensure Targeted Decisions
After a short break, there was a how-to session on the correct handling of data in online shops.
Jannik from epoq kicked things off. On the topic of data management, he explained how to organize data from online shops correctly in order to subsequently exploit its full potential.
Andreas from minubo continued with data infrastructure. He showed how to use integrated data correctly as a basis for data enrichment and what advantages data enrichment can offer in terms of personalization for customers.
Florian from Actindo concluded the presentation with the topic of data administration. Through proper data management and process control, the online customer experience can be taken to a new level.
Thanks to the concentrated expertise, participants learned how to get the most out of the data they collect. Would you like to learn more about data enrichment? Then take a look at the Data Enrichment recording.

Best Practices | Personalized Home Page – Your Individual Showcase
Before the well-deserved lunch break, there were a few more practical examples. This time, the topic was the individual shop window of the online store—the home page.
Alexander from Gepp's kicked things off. What elements should be included on the home page to make your online shop eye-catching, and what role should personalization play in this? Alexander answered these and other questions in his presentation with examples from the Gepp's online shop.
Marco from alkima also shared his expert knowledge on the role of the home page in online shops. Using the bw-online-shop as an example, he showed how you can engage your customers on the home page and encourage them to shop. In addition to home page elements, he also included a digression on the integration of social media and influencers – you can find out more about this in the recording Personalized Home Page.
But now it was time for lunch. After a brief recap and a break, we moved on to the next presentations...
Best Practices | Degree of personalization of recommendations
After the opening by the moderators, the second half of the Personalization Experience Day 2022 began with a presentation on the degree of recommendations from a recommendation system.

Then take a look at the recording on the degree of personalization of recommendations!
How-To | A/B testing as an introduction to shop personalization
How do you actually set up a proper A/B test in an online shop? Kasthuri from AB Tasty has the answer to this question. She showed various steps, from brainstorming to a successful test. A guideline for anyone who wants to get started with A/B testing or further optimize the process.
Lea from Marc O'Polo linked testing with personalization. Using various best practices, she showed how to move from A/B testing to personalization. She concluded with important notes on personalization in online shops and how to use it correctly. You can find out what these were in the recording A/B testing as an introduction to shop personalization.

Virtual Panel | Experts discuss their experiences with the Shopping Stream
The grand finale was provided by the virtual panel on experiences with the Shopping Stream —a brand-new format at this year's PXD.
Céline from The People Branding Company, Thorsten from epoq, Artur from Y1, Thomas from MAILODY, and Niklas from OnlineMarketing.de provided all kinds of expert knowledge.
- What role does personalization play in online shops?
- How do you create an optimal customer experience?
- How will e-commerce develop in the coming years?
These and many other questions were discussed during the open round of the virtual panel. In addition to the exchange of opinions among the experts, there were also questions from the audience and exciting answers. It's a shame that it was over after an hour—we could have listened for hours more. That's why it's good that we recorded it and you can watch the recording of the virtual panel here.

Raffle – It was worth taking part!
A small highlight of the Personalization Experience Day 2022 was the raffle for a brand-new iPhone 13 Pro. Everyone had the chance to participate by answering quiz questions of varying difficulty that were asked between presentations. All you had to do was post the correct answer under our LinkedIn post to be entered into the raffle. Just under 200 comments later, the moment of truth arrived and a winner was drawn. Congratulations again and thank you to everyone who took part.
A few weeks earlier, PXD had also run a competition on social media. Three winners were delighted to receive prizes including an Apple Watch.
